BillNyeGuy: Look up the development of this show. Looks like Amazon stole it from Warner Brothers pictures which would have allowed them to be closer to the movies. They did everything they could to create their own Game of Thrones (also owned by Warner Brothers interestingly). Bezos thinks if he throws enough money at something he can get what he wants no matter what he does to the project. He doesn’t care about the story itself. Whatever he thinks will get him the most viewers. Big budget, diverse cast, big scope. Actually having a good story, purpose, and reason? Not as important to him it seems.

This makes failure absolutely certain, because how can a "fantasy" project succeed when your primary objective is to fill it with "NON-fantasy" material. And the natural result? A mixed bag of pooh. The core of Tolkien's legendarium IS about the past, the lament for past glories and wonders, the Elven longing for those days, and the tragic disappearance of the past's (Elder days') magic as Middle Earth (Arda) becomes more like our own modern world at the end of the Third age after most of the elves sailed to Valinor and dwarves died off slowly afterwards. Tolkien’s work is a love letter to the majestic and magical past. Amazon’s clowns don’t seem to understand that at all when they said Tolkien’s work must reflect modern world. Sh*t for brains.
