Earthbounder 27: No I am

Maxotried V2: I am the newest comment oof

anime jutsu 101: if you like dragon ball then here is the news.on may 5th 2014 the dragon ball dvds will be out in the uk

theoneandonly4124: If you'd actually watched DBZ on UK TV like I did then you'd know that we got the Funimation dub from the Ginyu-Trunks sagas with the Faulconer score as well as the Fusion saga when it aired on CNX. That's around 74 episodes which is a huge part of the series. I for one have a lot of nostalgia for that score and would have no interest in buying a release like the Dragon Boxes that didn't have it.

David315842: The video quality issue should actually be solved when FUNimation attempts a Blu-ray release again, apparently or so I heard they're going to try and release the series on Blu-ray in a similar fashion to the season sets or Dragon Boxes, but with the picture as it is in the Japanese version, if all goes well these will probably be the ones Manga will distribute themselves once they're released in the States and if sales are good.

Rukulote: Of course it'll be a little pricier if they release them. The point of the Dragon Boxes isn't them being in a box, it's the superior video quality. If not being a 100% faithful reproduction of the boxes could drop the price a little bit, I wouldn't mind it.

David315842: The Dragon Boxes will be more expensive then the regular editions, they always have and always will be! If stores like Forbidden Planet sell the new DBZ boxsets at £35.99, then you'll bet the Dragon Boxes would be about £50.00, also you don't work for Manga, so it's best not to say what they will or won't produce. Chances are they'll re-produce the packaging too, I mean why else release the Dragon Boxes, if they're not IN Dragon Boxes!

David315842: It's a limited edition outside Japan, not In Japan. Toei have the distribution rights for their own shows in their own country, they are limiting certain editions in other regions outside Japan, you just have to think about it, it's a business strategy. FUNImation will only release THEIR dub, they do not have the rights to the Blue Water Dragonball or Dragonball GT dubs, they're owned by AB Distribution, which also own the non FUNI Ocean Group dub of DBZ and the 'Big Green' Dub of the movies.

Rukulote: (Toei did release the DBox masters again later on single disc form, so it wasn't just the actual limited boxes.) And for DB and GT the UK had the Blue Water dubs that even had the original score. So I truly question if anyone would care, as long as it had A dub. Even if it was 50quid (which it wouldn't) that would be just the msrp, you'd never actually pay that much. And Manga wouldn't even need to reproduce the expensive boxes, just the masters.

David315842: These will be released as the 'Rock the Dragon' set in August in the US. When Captain-Ginyu-Trunks sagas were aired on Toonami, THIS was the FUNImation dub, but then afterwards the Ocean Group came back and using the music from Ruby Spears' Mega Man cartoon from the 90's produced their own dub again, but there is a considerable amount of DBZ they didn't dub, those 4 missing sagas.

David315842: Fair enough, true these sets then carry over FUNImation's cropping, and fair enough what you said about the loss of picture. This wasn't present in the Dragon Box sets, however, there is no English language version with FUNI's score as it would have compromised the Dragon Box discs. Perhaps Manga will licence though, but you'll be looking at over £50.00 per volume. The FUNimation produced Ocean Group dub was ONLY the first 53 episodes; the Saiyan and Namek Sagas and the first 3 movies.

Rukulote: Actually, the Ocean Group dub up until maybe that exact point was still produced by FUNimation until they brought their in-house cast. The UK sets have all the same versions (all 3 of them). If you watch these on a widescreen TV you're still missing a lot of footage, dealing with bad framing because of it, and dealing with a pretty awful remaster that blurred the picture together and with a huge lack of detail on the picture. The rest of FUNi's remastered line is as bad, but sans the cropping.

David315842: But again, Toei only printed the Dragon Box sets as limited editions, they are not doing much with them, because they themselves want these sets to be limited, they are limited so that they can make more money off of them like what Disney do with their top selling movies etc.

David315842: 'sigh' The UK DID get a portion of the FUNimtion dub between Captain Ginyu - Trunks sagas, due to there being NO Ocean Group equivalent dub. I'm asking if these UK sets have both versions, the FUNimation dub with it's own score and with the Japanese score or is it just the dub with the Japanese score, if so then the US set is better since it has more options. Also if you watch these DVD's on a widescreen format it's not so bad, but yes the Dragon Box doesn't have any cropping issues.

Rukulote: I'm saying the UK never got that score in the sense that it wasn't the FUNimation dub and score that aired in the UK. Not that it isn't in these duplicate sets lol. (As far as "superior" FUNimation, let's keep in mind that they made these sets right here. Missing 20% of the picture and terribly blurred together.) Or they could make their own sets, but using the Dragon Box masters. Since Toei isn't focusing on using them anymore. And not just a limited release.

David315842: OK, so Manga only released the box sets with the English dub with the Japanese score and didn't include the English dub with the FUNImation score , that's odd as these are supposed to be duplicates of the Region 1 sets, if not then Manga are just going to lose sales to the superior FUNImation. Yes I know I'm saying this on their channel, but if it's true they should acknowledge this. Maybe they'll get around to acquire the Dragon Box releases for a limited period, who knows?

Rukulote: I am aware of that. However there were also reproductions of the Dragon Box masters in Spain as well (not just FUNimation's North American release). And let's face it, the orange bricks' masters are very underwhelming, even ignoring the 20% cropping of the picture. Ironically, the UK never had that score, so I don't see how much of an issue it would actually be. I'm just hoping they get better masters for everything else. (FUNi's DB and GT masters ain't that great either)

David315842: These versions are the orange box sets and not the Dragon Box versions since Toei Animation wanted those to be limited editions only. The Dragon Boxes though do not have the English dub with the Funimation score which is present on these sets. Maybe Manga may get the licences from FUNImtion/Toei into distributing everything else Dragonball related, such as the movies, TV specials, Dragonball the first series, GT and even Kai, but I guess it will depend on how well these UK sets will sell.

Rukulote: I'd love to get Dragon Ball and GT from you guys after all of Z is released. As long as it's the Dragon Box versions and not the crappy FUNimation remastered versions... Toei should be willing to give you guys better quality to work with, instead of this. Since they have it and are no longer doing much with it.
