Hes out of jurisdiction and knows what kind of heat getting involved in helping investigate got him last time, it made a season of tv out of him looking like an antagonist. Just a theory since no one else believes it involves murder at first. It's a missed opportunity to not include him in night country

José Luis: 1st season is a masterpiece 2nd season is enjoyable and interesting but cannot reach season 1 3rd season is a chore, I watched 4 episodes and nothing happened there was no advance of the plot and way too much background character development and flashbacks, I left it there Hope season 4 is good, because it doesn't matter how good the actors are if the writing is poor.

Alex Duggan: True detective season 1 was a work of genius. But when it became a hit the studio bosses messes around with every season since. we must have diverse characters, we must have strong females characters, we must include modern politics, we must show representation. As such, im hoping this new season will be good, but based on the last two its a difficult to see how it will be.

meshzzizk: I don’t see any reason to be pessimistic, but it feels like they’re trying to go back to the supernatural-weird overtones of season 1 but not bringing back the airy philosophical bits of dialogue, which I think for many people contributed significantly to the enjoyability and mystery of the first season.

JustBob: Coming this year. I hate when they do that. Like next month, late summer, in the fall, December 31? Networks used to regularly release 20 or more episodes from September to May, but now they dole out 6-8 episodes of a series with two or more years between. We're all living on borrowed time, so just release the darned entertainment!
