The writer's could have given both actors a vastly more interesting scene, and possibly eluded to where Paige decided to attend College and what profession she had as an adult.

Some of us were thinking that Paige was gonna play him and break his heart or sum'n, others were actually shipping it but that would have created a Big Bang of a plot hole. But instead, they teased us just enough to make us anticipate/dread the outcome; made Paige pull a harmless prank on Sheldon-one might say that she was still tryna play with him but we all know Paige is both intellectually and emotionally intelligent so she knew that Sheldon isn't capable of feeling things like that.... yet- and then Sheldon figured it out himself that it wasn't actually a crush. Works for me.
