Miyagi-Do is a variant of Goju-ryu Karate. Which is Karate. Matter settled. Of course people assume there has to be 'an bad guy' and 'an good guy' at-all. I mean, aside from Kreese, that guy's the bad guy, obviously. But between Daniel and Johnny? Neither is a bad guy and neither is perfect. Like Ali with an I said, they're a lot more similar than you might realise.

MrTonyForever: I'm not going to debate the "Illegal" kick nonsense, but I will on who's the real Karate Kid...who IS Daniel. The original trilogy of films centers on him, but that's not to say Johnny doesn't have a claim to that title as well, he too is a kid who does Karate, but it just wasn't his story. We have to wait thirty plus years to upgrade Johnny from a deceiving one-note bully character with subtle dimensions to an actual fully developed human character. The "Karate Kid" of Cobra Kai is pretty much shared with all the teen characters of the show while the "Miyagi" sensei-type has passed to both series' leads. However, I believe in his own unique way Johnny is closer to being Miyagi than Daniel who has been slowly getting there himself if not for his hot-headed temper.

Seamus Corbett: You missed that (spoilers be damned) Tommy was the character who referenced a body bag in the first Karate Kid, and when we last see him, after the camping trip with the original Cobras, he's getting zipped into a body bag. I think that's the most brilliant Easter Egg of all.

michael franco: Everyone missed two hidden Easter eggs here in episode 5 and 10. Yes, the scroll was never opened. Japanese karate lores origins stemmed from China Kung fu. It consist of dragon, praying mantis, crane and tiger technique. Chozen showed Daniel the praying mantis technique when praying mantis in nature disables their pray in nature naturally. The scroll contains the dragon technique which will tie in to the new dojo's name. Second Easter egg is on the end credits in episode 10 when you will hear a familiar tune from a famous Nintendo game back in 1987 called double dragon. Look at the similarities of the characters in that game and compare it to Johnny and Daniel. It is spot on. The new name of the combined dojo will be double dragon-do or DDD.

Then they start being him up on a daily basis. They knock him off a 50 foot hill at night, on his back and try to kill him. Johnny had the water thing coming. It was just water. Then they tried to jump him 5 on 1 and were gonna kill him again. Miyagi saved him. Then, Daniel used said 'illegal' kick, because they illegally messed up his knee. If Johnny and Cobra Kai were fighting fair, and didnt resort to cheap tricks, maybe Johnny wouldn't have gotten kicked upside his head and lost. Team Daniel all the way. Miyagi-Do FTW!!

Trey Tate: I love how the head contact is only illegal when it applies to Daniel. Johnny literally kicks Daniel in the face(or at least attempts to) right after he sweeps the leg. He also strikes and attempts to strike him in the face(both punches and kicks) multiple times and let's not forget HE LITERALLY TRIED TO BREAK DANIEL'S LEG!! So maybe it's not a great idea to get hung up on the legality of the crane kick.
