Not once did the mom say my child decided not to go college. The young man may have chosen to attend school in State, there’s plenty of good colleges in the state of Texas and Harris County area. I had a friend who chose not to go away to attend college to help out his divorce mom and he attended college locally in NYC, he did just fine and attended a good school (btw this person wasn’t black).
