Jorden Backaert: I fell like your analogy of Hinata at 17:10 isn't very correct. What Osamu was getting at is that Hinata is just very happy and grateful to be playing volleyball. He wants to keep playing volleyball, probably more than anyone else. He's happy and grateful for every minute he gets to play and only wants to play more and more volleyball. That's also why, if they do lose, he's going to be more devastated than anyone else since he won't be ble to play any more games/sets/minutes/seconds of volleyball. His main goal (that has been stated at ep 1 of s1) is to stay the longest on the court after all.

The One: if you think about it in storytelling like this where you have one side vs other side, the only outcome is win or lose. And it takes away from the unpredictable of outcome but we don't know how X team might win or lose. At the same depending on where the MC is at the plot line (ex: is he at the point of no return and climax, where he has to fight the final boss) or is he just beginning his journey and so losing will not be the end of the story. So when you're at the early stage, you can afford as a writer to make MCs lose but going toward climax, depending on the story theme and plot usually the HERO has to win!
